The Spleenwort is edible. It is known to be a, diuretic, laxative and ophthalmic. It is taken internally to treat diseases of the spleen, jaundice and ophthalmia (inflammation of the eye). It is said to produce sterility in women. A decoction or syrup made from the fronds can stimulate menstruation, can help discharge phlegm as well as provide relief in the chest.
