THE ARTIST

About

An artists nightmare is to take a step back in their work and thats exactly what I did. Over recent years I took a step back from my work. I felt like I had run out of ideas, run dry of my creativity. I felt bored, uninspired, and unenthused with my work. But one day I had been introduced to the art of weaving. During my artist residency in Berlin, we were invited to do a group exercise. Swap mediums and techniques with a fellow artist, they picked at random who we would swap mediums with and I was matched with an artist who weaved textiles. Immediately I was intrigued, but I knew nothing and I mean nothing about textiles and weaving. But what I did know about was abstract landscapes and photography.

What was born from that exercise is a new type of work; a collage work combining images from our manmade and natural world. I find collaging to be an extension of our world visually. But of course as an artist we always want more. We always want something that doesn’t exist, or to produce what no one else can see. I haven’t figured out how to exactly describe what I’m doing, but I think thats what’s motivating me to keep going.

The new works that are starting to exist have been set in motion from that day a couple years ago in Berlin, a random artists medium suddenly became my own medium. My interpretation of that medium has now snowballed into a visual extension of the world around us. And as well owed to a busted printer that I found in Berlin. I never know when that printer is going to fall apart on me and thats what makes this so fun.
